1 โ Features: What Is The Thing?
The most literal, boring, correct description of what you're selling. Features don't sell โ but if you don't say them, the buyer's logical brain never even figures out what they'd be buying.
Picture a car dealership. You walk onto the lot. The salesperson runs up and starts pitching you on "freedom." On "the open road." On "who you become when you drive this."
You look at them and say: "โฆokay, but what does it have?"
That's the missing piece. Feelings sell โ but only after the logical brain gets its bare-minimum answer to "what is this thing?" Every buyer, no matter how emotional the eventual purchase, needs the boring facts on the table first. Skip them, and the emotional pitch bounces off a brain that hasn't figured out what it's even considering.
The boring first job
Features are the most literal, boring, correct description of what you're selling.
"This car has heated leather seats, a sunroof, a steering wheel, four seats, whatever it is. Those are the features."
They don't tell you the experience. They don't convey an emotional benefit. They're just a list. But they satisfy the part of the brain asking: what am I even considering buying here?
For an Optimus-style offer, features look like:
- You get three calls.
- You get access to three live events.
- You get a portal login with 100+ trainings.
Boring. Necessary. Because if you skip past this, the buyer walks around confused about what they'd actually be getting for their money.
The pattern to internalize: features are for the logical brain. Say them plainly, once, up front. Then move on.
Do this now
Take the offer you're working on and generate its Features list in five minutes:
- Open a new chat with any AI (Claude, ChatGPT, whatever).
- Paste in the offer: name of it, price, and every deliverable you can think of.
- Paste this prompt underneath:
List the features of this offer. Just the literal, unadorned facts โ what does the buyer receive? What's included? How many of what?
- Get the list. It should be boring. That means it's right.
- Sanity check: if someone read only your Features list, could they explain to a friend what they'd be buying? If yes, ship it. If no, add the missing facts.
Do NOT skip to advantages or benefits yet. Just the raw list.
Features aren't sexy. That's the point.
Their job is to answer the one question every buyer's logical brain is already asking: what is this thing? If you don't answer it, no amount of emotional pitching downstream lands โ because the logical brain is still stuck on the earlier question.
Write the boring list. Then earn the right to move on.
Next up โ Lesson 2 ยท Advantages โ the same features, but positioned against everyone else in the market.
