7 — Agents Run the Ads Now
The Meta developer platform, the ~28 API functions that matter, the new Meta Ads MCP — and the workflow where agents create, monitor, and iterate your campaigns while you architect.
The 2026 unlock: everything in lessons 1–6 — the mining, the testing, the math, the modeling — can now be executed by agents. You architect; they operate.
The direct route: Meta's developer platform
Go to developers.meta.com and register an app for your ad account (there's an approval step — it's routine). The Marketing API exposes roughly 27–28 functions, and you only need a handful: create ads, update them, pause them, read performance. Then have the smartest agent you can direct build you exactly the tool you want on top of those functions — create, update, monitor — nothing more.
That's the pattern worth internalizing: you don't need a SaaS subscription for this anymore. You need API access and an agent with a clear brief.
The 2026 shortcut: the Meta Ads MCP
There's now a Meta Ads MCP server — MCP being the standard plug from the Agentic Glossary — that lets your agent talk to your ad account directly. This is brand-new territory (it surfaced on the call secondhand and hasn't been battle-tested here yet): agent connects, reads campaign performance, drafts variations, pauses losers — conversationally. If you're starting today, evaluate the MCP first; if it holds up, it may save you the whole custom-app step.
What the agent workflow actually looks like
- Mine — agent transcribes your calls and extracts nugget candidates (lesson 1).
- Build — agent ships the lead magnet page + delivery the same day (lesson 5).
- Launch — agent creates the $100 test campaign via API/MCP with your proven-structure hook (lesson 6).
- Read — agent reports CPL against your thresholds daily and CPA against your allowable (lesson 4).
- Iterate — you make the kill/scale calls; agent executes them. One in ten wins; the agent makes taking ten shots cheap.
You stay in the loop where judgment lives — the kill/scale decision, the taste, the offer. Everything else is now delegation.
One honest warning, repeated
Lean into AI-built marketing and some people will flag it, sneer at it, report it — not because it's misleading, but because it's AI. Expected. Priced in. The backlash is loudest exactly when the leverage is highest — that's usually how you know you're early.
That's the rant. Seven lessons from one recorded hour — which is itself the proof of lesson 1. The worksheet next door turns it into your plan: one conversation, five nuggets, one magnet, one $100 test. Go mine something.
