The split: every ad platform is one of two psychologies. Interruption — someone's scrolling, and you interrupt them with a good idea (Meta, Instagram, TikTok). Search — someone's actively hunting (Google, YouTube search).
They are not the same buyer, and what works on one often flops on the other. The correlation is surprisingly low.
The interruption buyer (Meta)
They weren't looking for you. They saw something that named their problem better than they could. These leads are cheaper — but they arrive earlier in awareness. They see the problem, they see your solution, and they still need to be walked over the line. That's exactly what your middle-of-funnel value hub is for — interruption traffic + value hub is a natural pair.
The search buyer (Google/YouTube)
Higher intent — they typed the problem into a box. But they're deal-aware: comparing, price-shopping, hunting the right option among five tabs. You'll pay more per click, and you have to be the best answer on arrival, because they're judging you against the other tabs in real time.
Why you start on Meta
- It's the easiest platform to plug into and go.
- Cheap leads mean cheap verdicts — you learn what your market responds to for $50–$100 (next lessons).
- What you learn about your hooks and magnets transfers to your organic content, your emails, everywhere — even if the specific winning ad doesn't transfer to Google.
Win on interruption first. Take the confidence (and the proven hooks) to search platforms after.
One more 2026 reality: the AI backlash
If your creative leans AI — AI presenter, AI voice, obviously generated visuals — expect some indiscriminate pushback and even platform flags from people who just don't like AI. It's not a sign you did something wrong. Lean in anyway if AI-forward IS your brand; the noise fades, and the people it filters out weren't your buyers.
Do this
- Write your offer twice: once as an interruption ("you didn't know this was possible") and once as a search answer ("here's why we're the right choice").
- Notice which one came easier. That's a clue about your market's default awareness level.
- Set up (or dust off) your Meta ad account. Next lesson is the math that keeps it from eating your wallet.
Next: the math — CPA, the law of averages, and why "this lead is expensive" is the wrong sentence.
