Sales: The Conversion Subsystem
The second OSLO pillar. Sales is how interest becomes revenue — the pipeline, the follow-up, the calls, and the close. The subsystem that turns a 'maybe' into 'paid.'
Leads get someone's attention. Sales gets their money. This is the pillar where most founder-architects are still the bottleneck personally — they're the best closer in the building, so every deal routes through them, and the business can't grow past their calendar. The job here is to design a conversion subsystem that doesn't depend on you being in the room.
What Sales actually is
Sales is the path from "interested" to "paid," and it has parts you can name:
- Pipeline — the staged journey: new lead, qualified, call booked, proposal sent, closed. If you can't name the stages, you can't see where deals die.
- Follow-up — the unsexy work that wins. Most revenue is lost not to "no" but to silence: the lead that never got the third email.
- The call & the close — discovery, objection handling, the actual ask. The highest-skill moment, and the one you most want to keep your hand on.
The leak is almost never the close. It's the gap between stages — the lead who raised a hand on Tuesday and didn't hear from anyone until the next Monday.
How an Architect runs it with agents
You design the pipeline; agents keep it moving:
- A qualification agent scores every inbound lead against your real criteria (budget, authority, fit) so you stop spending closer-time on tire-kickers.
- A follow-up agent runs the sequence no human is disciplined enough to run — the right message at the right interval until the lead replies or opts out.
- A prep agent walks into every call having read the lead's site, their LinkedIn, and the notes from the first touch, and hands you a one-page brief.
You take the calls that are worth your voice. The subsystem makes sure those are the only calls that reach you — and that nothing else slips through the cracks.
Worked example
You run 25,000-dollar deals and close 30% of the calls you take — but you only take calls when you have time, and half your inbound leads never get a second touch.
You build a Sales FAST loop. The qualification agent tags each new lead hot, warm, or junk the moment it lands, using the same gut-checks you'd use yourself. Hot leads trigger a calendar link and a prep brief; warm leads enter a five-touch follow-up sequence; junk gets a polite no so you never see it.
Three weeks in, your close rate on calls is still 30% — but you're now taking twice the calls, and the warm sequence is reviving leads you'd have written off. Same closing skill. The subsystem just stopped letting revenue rot in the gap between stages. That's the difference between being a great salesperson and architecting a sales engine.
